OUR COACHES

 

At GEA, we share the philosophy of BC Athletics that "great coaches build great athletes". All of our coaches have done extensive professional development and are well versed in the needs of young athletes. Below is our main "technical team" supported by a team of assistant coaches. In total, there is  a staffing of approximately 14 coaches providing expertise and experience across all event areas. Through BC Athletics, these coaches listed have completed Sports Coach, Club Coach or the National Coaching Certification Program as outlined in their profiles.

NORM TINKHAM - SENIOR ENDURANCE COACH

 

Former National team member, Norm represented Canada at several World Championships. A former National champion at 10,000m, he currently works

as a physiotherapist in Maple Ridge. He works primarily with the long distance high school runners, as well as UBC athletes.

RICK LLOYD - SENIOR SPRINTS & JUMP COACH

 

A Long jump / triple jump specialist, Rick still competes at the International level as a masters athlete. A former Simon Fraser University team member, Rick works primarily with high school aged sprinters and jumpers.

DERRICK STEVENSON - HIGH SCHOOL COACH

 

A long distance runner with several marathons under his belt, Derrick is both the Club President and a coach who works primarily with the junior development group.

DON ALLEERMRSH - THROWS COACH

 

An experienced throws coach, Don splits his time with coaching GEA and SFU athletes. He has a wealth of experience coaching top nationally acclaimed competitors and is a exceptionally inspirational member of our coaching team.
